Going for a grey theme? We’ve got you covered!
Grey inspiration
Grey: often associated with battleships and prison cells…. but now; the most popular ‘colour’ in the More For Your Floor product range!
Grey need not be dull and drab. It isn’t just a mix of black and white. The ‘greys’ in our flooring combine all sorts of different colours and textures to provide a contemporary look that can be striking… and warm.
Grey and its many variations are everywhere and add a modern, classic look to your home. Everywhere we look, we seen examples of inspirationally designed interiors using grey as a theme; in hallways, bathrooms, kitchens and lounges. Take a look in interior design magazines, on Instagram and in new-build home interiors… try taking a minute to peruse Rightmove for the latest fashions in the UK’s most prestigious housing developments!
Here are just a few of our ideas to inspire you with our product range. Each example uses a product from our collections and demonstrates how to use grey to great effect.
First, consider combining a splash of colour. Think vibrant yellows, orange or purple. Use a throw, cushions or furnishings to add warmth. Think texture, with exposed stone or painted brick feature walls. Use contrasting white to dazzling effect on the skirtings, or an opposing wall. Hang monochrome prints to harmonise and layer with different shades of grey, from dark charcoals to warmer greys, cool greys and lighter tones.
Grey laminate flooring
This Advanced Century Oak laminate flooring gives a cool contemporary feel in this industrially themed interior. Sharp lines combine with dark furnishings and exposed concrete walls. It’s perhaps a little too ‘man cave’ for some, but it’s a great example of this laminate, which can be used anywhere… in any room. To add to it’s authentic oak plank appearance, it has four bevelled edges and a high resolution grey oak finish, that’s non slip and incredibly hard wearing.
In this interior, the owner has incorporated contemporary furnishings with the subtle use of warm whites to soften the overall effect. This Steel Oak Grande Narrow laminate is from our Grande Narrow range and features a realistic distressed wood grain effect which delicately refracts natural light, giving a warmth and natural ambience usually only found on real wood surfaces.
Another grey in our Grande Narrow range of laminates. This Scaffold Wood Grande Narrow works perfectly in this ultra-modern interior and helps to add warmth. The natural surface of the planks works exceptionally well with the contrasting concrete rendered walls and monochrome décor to provide a harmonious blend of both warm and cool greys.
Grey carpets
At More For Your Floor, we have a wide choice of grey carpets, from hard wearing twist plies, to deep sumptuous Saxonys, loops and Berbers. This grey twist pile is a great choice for a clean look, that is soft, hard wearing and modern.
When using neutrals, you can add warmth with lighting, both natural and artificial. The cooler the greys you choose, the warmer you will need the light source to be. A room with a north facing source of natural light will better suit warmer, yellow based greys, sometimes referred to as ‘geiges’… a beige and grey combo.
With warmer light you can choose to go cooler and add vibrant accent colours to add ‘pop’. With northern facing rooms choose warm bulbs with warm coloured shades; yellows and oranges and make your room cosier in the evenings.
A paint swatch, such as this Farrow & Ball example is a great way of visualising how colours can be used together to harmonise or add contrast and create different effects. Consider, not just the colour and tone of your flooring and walls, but other elements in the room such as furnishings, accessories and wall hangings which can all work together to create a pleasing effect.
Grey vinyl flooring
At More, we also offer a great range of vinyl flooring, many with grey themed colours, from wood and stone effects to ceramic tile effects with a modern twist. Great for kitchens and bathrooms, they can also be used in hallways, home offices and conservatories. They are a highly practical flooring and are easy to clean and comfortable and warm underfoot.
This Primo vinyl emulates the look of ceramic tiles with a bold geometric pattern which is suited to both modern, and traditional interiors and it comes with a thick 2.8mm cushioned backing and a non slip surface to add to its practical appeal.
The Black Retro and Grey Retro Victorian Tile range from our Primo Vinyl Flooring collection is another variation on the classic look of porcelain tiles and is available in a black and white, or a grey and white finish and it works just as well in a super modern, or traditional bathroom.
This Grey Blue enduringly popular ‘reclaimed wood plank Primo’ vinyl, although not strictly grey, contains elements of grey which work well with a grey themed interior.
Vinyl is such a versatile flooring and offers endless possibilities in terms of the effects that can be created. The Light Modern Parquet Wood Style vinyl flooring mimics the look of wooden parquet flooring with convincing effect. Beautiful in this combination of cool and warm greys, it is easy to fit and extremely durable too. The soft grey furnishing harmonises perfectly with the warm greys in the flooring and on the walls.
